“Before we have their minds, we need to have their hearts’: the crucial role of attachment in teaching and learning.
A ½ day workshop for teachers, RTLBs, principals or anyone engaged in working with children. In this presentation I will present how attachment develops between a child and their caregiver under optimal conditions. When the child is in healthy attachment their capacity to listen, learn, adapt and develop comes “online”. We will look at the implications of what happens when a child is not in secure attachment, how it impacts learning and development and how a detached child (this may look like ADHD, Reactive Attachment disorder, Anxiety or other underlying causes) can be helped in coming into secure attachment and therefore enough psychological rest to be amenable to be taught.
